“Spirit in Motion”, the unique documentary about Paralympic athletes at the XI Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games, premiered at the beginning of March at the “Moscow” theatre
"Spirit in Motion” premiers in Moscow
The film “Spirit in Motion” was created by the film studio “Ostrov” and production centre “VGIK-Debut” with the support of the Ministry of Culture, Federal Agency for Press and Mass Communications, TV-channel “Rossiya-1”. Sofia Geveyler, Yulia Byvsheva, Sofia Kucher - all are the VGIK's alumni - directed the film. 
 
Sergey Miroshnichenko, producer of the film and current board member of the Russian Documentary Guild, shares a personal story that inspires him to make the film. 

“This film is very important for me, because my father became blind just 9 days before the end of the WWII. Since I was a kid, I was his guide and I know well, how strong the people with disabilities are. My father became a historian, professor and was granted many times by the State for his work with the youth". 

The documentary “Spirit in Motion” is dedicated to the first in the Russian history Paralympic Games. The filming of the documentary “Spirit in Motion” took place during the XI Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games as well as during the year preceding the start of the event. The film crew also worked on different continents - the main storyline is the sequence of novels portraying the brightest Paralympic athletes from different parts of the world. 

The strongest athletes of the planet - the heroes of the documentary - are reflecting on the strength of human spirit, on the possibilities to overcome all the constraints imposed on a human-being by fate, on the philosophy and values of Paralympic movement, constructive Endeavour, the role of sport in the modern world, and its mission in the 21st century. 

The stories of overcoming are combined with animated stories of life of the sportsmen. The performance of the characters of the film during Paralymic Winter Games in Sochi were shot using multi-stage method - 5 cameras. More than 40 qualified specialists participated in the creation of the movie, including debutants and professionals. 

Eight of the strongest athletes from different parts of the World are fighting for the chance to come to Sochi and win a medal of the highest standard, but before this each of them must defeat the most serious opponent – his own disability. The title of the documentary “Spirit in Motion” comes from the official motto of Paralympic Movement. During the filming process the International Paralympic Committee named the film as the first-in-the-history official film of XI Sochi Paralymic Winter Games.
