About studio

Moscow International Film Festival is the biggest Russian international film festival, accredited by FIAPF as a "Competiton (Class A)" Festival. Each year festival happens in the second part of the June. Last year it was 36th edition of the festival. President of the festival - Academy Award winner Nikita Mikhalkov.

Documentary programs of the festivals are curated by Emmy and Grierson award winner, producer and director Sergey Miroshnichenko and producer Grigory Libergal.

Documentary competition program (not less than 7 films) aimed to reach wide theatrical audience. The winner is awarded by Silver Statue of St. George as well as with the cash prize from "Watching and Discussing" tv-show and Ostrov Studio.

2014: "Deep Love", dir. Jan Matushinsky, 84 min, Poland
2013: "Father and Son", dir. Pawel Lozinsky, 54 min, Poland
2012: "Searching for Sugar Man", dir. Malik Bendjelloul, 86 min, Sweden, UK.
2011: "Hell and Back Again", dir. Danfung Dennis, 88 min, USA
Previous were judged by Michael Apted, Sergey Dvortsevoy, Sean McAllister, Pawel Pawlikovski and other film professionals.

“Free thought” is an out-of-competition program, dedicated to the world best films of the year - winners of the film festivals, leaders of box office, new works by great masters.
Programs are created and curated by Sergey Miroshnichenko, Grigoriy Libergal.
